All is quiet on new years day

We had a pretty low key day. We basically just lazed around the house and then went to my parent's house at dinner time for hoppin' john and collards. The kids got some new video games for Christmas, so the Wii has been pretty busy.

I know I hinted that I might post about some of my controversial political views, but Bill talked me out of mentioning a few.  He said people might not want to be friends with me anymore. I, personally, don't think those people were my friends in the first place. :)

Here's a safe on: I think drugs, marijuana in particular, should be legalized. Now don't go thinking I've gone all Rastafarian on you. I just feel like weed is a natural product, and its about on par with alcohol. Our courts and prison systems are clogged with drug offenders. And just think of how many people die each year in the illegal drug trade. Now I'm no fan of taxes, but just think of how much revenue the gov't  could gain by taxing marijuana. Less court cases, less prisoners, more tax money. It's a win-win situation.

Here's another one: I'm sick of the legal battles over abortion. I think even the most strident pro choicer would agree that abortion is a horrific choice. Maybe I'm being a little idealistic here, but I wish both sides could come together and figure out how to make abortion unnecessary. Let's face facts, if abortion is made illegal it will just go underground and be more dangerous. This should be a moral battle, not a legal one. You can't legislate morality. You just can't. I feel like I need to add this caveat; for very personal reasons I am probably the most pro-life person you will ever meet. I am in no way condoning abortion.  Just wanted to clear that up to avoid angry comments.

#3-I'm no foreign policy expert but I don't see why America should have a military presence on 130 countries. That just seems a tad excessive. We are not the world's watchdog.

I have a few more extreme views, but like I said, Bill thinks it would be a bad idea to post them. And he is usually right. If you can't get enough of this, leave a comment and I will email you all the gory details.
