I like to post about books I am reading, but only if the book sounds sufficiently cool or intellectual enough to let the world know I am reading it. I have decided to drop that policy
Earlier this month I read a book by Nora Roberts, Wait! It gets better. I read the book because I watched part of them movie on The Lifetime Movie Network and wanted to know how it ended. Midnight Bayou
started off fun enough. It was light and pleasant; I was starting to think that I would like to read all of the ten million books she has written. But then the main characters fell in love. And by falling in love I mean they (as the British put it) shagged every other page. I didn't know breasts could be described so many ways! It was like reading p*rn. The light kind they show on Cinemax.
My next reading foray was a little less stimulating: What Would Buffy Do: The Vampire Slayer as Spiritual Guide. In this book, the author, Jana Reiss actually wrote a spiritual guide book to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In it Reiss compared Angel to a bodhisattva. Okie-dokie. This was quite a stretch seeing that Buffy creator, Joss Whedon, is an avowed atheist.
I also, from time to time, devour books that would best be described as new-age self-help books. You know, the kind of books Oprah recommends. I am particularly fond of Dr Wayne Dyer. Suffice it to say I know a great deal about attracting positive energy and banishing negative energy. My husband and children think I am nuts.
I've come clean. Please still love me.
Peace,
Wendy
